Favorite Scripture Passage: : Romans 8:31-39 – it is a great summary of the unchanging and unshakable nature of God’s love for us.  Try reading it with epic movie theme music in the background, it’s awesome.
What books are you currently reading?  For church leadership I have been reading "Deep & Wide" by Andy Stanley, and "Center Church" by Tim Keller.  Just for fun I have been working my way through a list of 100 All Time Best Science Fiction and Fantasy Novels.

  • Reverend Brian Walter - Associate Pastor

Family: I have been married to my beautiful wife Linda for 26 years and we still date regularly! We have three kids: Zack, Caitlyn, and Christina.  Zack lives in Aurora where he is a supervisor for Menards Distribution Center and volunteers at his church with the worship team. Caitlyn is attending Judson University where she is studying architecture. Chirstina is a junior at Vernon Hills High school. She enjoys leading Praise Team and performing with Spotlight Youth Theatre. When our family is all together we like to play games like Qwirkle, Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, Agricola, and Dominion. We also have a cat named Jake.
Before this Position: Pastoring is a second career for me. I spent 16 years in the home medical field as a rehab specialist (I delivered and fit people in custom wheelchairs). During that time I also spent a lot of time volunteering in youth ministry and eventually directing Junior High ministry part time. In 2002 on a weekend retreat I accepted a call to go into full time pastoral ministry. I began preparation for ministry by first completing my bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry at Trinity International University and then going on to complete a master’s in Christian Studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I began serving at GCC in October of 2010.
Ideal vacation: Camping pretty much anywhere, I especially like the Black Hills in South Dakota, Devil’s Lake in Wisconsin, and Starved Rock in Illinois.

Favorite Scripture Passage: One of my favorite scripture passages is Isaiah 40. I especially like verses 10-12 where we are given a view of an awesome, powerful, and mighty God and at the same time a God that comes close to His people with tender love and care . . . we serve a BIG God!
"See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and his arm rules for him. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?"                                                                                                                                                                                                     - Isaiah 40:10-12 (NIV)

  • Paul Kattner - Associate Pastor

Family:  I am blessed to be married to my high school sweetheart, Lynn.  We have four children that we are extremely proud of: Kaelen, a graduate of Indiana University; Joshua, a graduate of Iowa State University; Emily who attends Warren High School, and Erin who is at Christian Life School.

Education and Career:  I have a couple of Bachelor's degrees, a doctorate (Doctor of Dental Surgery) and two post-doctoral Master's degrees (MS in Orthodontics and an MA in Theological Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School).  Outside of my work at GCC I maintain a private practice specializing in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Waukegan.

Passion:  I have a passion for spiritual formation and seeing believers grow as disciples. I am encouraged by: Ephesians 4: 11 So Christ himself gave … the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. I am compelled by: Colossians 1: 28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

Favorite Scripture Passage:  Luke 12:48b From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.  I have been blessed richly by God - I have been given much - I have been entrusted with much.  This passage reminds me that all I have is from God and I will glorify him when I respond to those gifts faithfully.

Ideal Vacation:  The Kattner's have tried lots of different vacations on for size - the best always seem to be the simplest ones.  Give us a lake, a cottage, and the fewest number of expectations possible - and we seem happiest. Oh, and it’s not too hard to talk me into a backpacking trip!
